Prologue Excerpt

The rain did not fall gently in the Blackwood Ridge. It descended in thick, icy sheets, heavy enough to drown out the sound of footsteps on the pine needles.

He stood under the shadow of the ancient firs, rain dripping from his dark hair down his jawline. Through the veil of water, she emerged—her dark reddish-brown hair plastered against her shoulders, her amber eyes glowing in the gloom with a heat that defied the storm.

"You shouldn't have followed me here," she whispered, her voice low and laced with the tremor of a transformation held back only by sheer willpower.

He took a step closer into the downpour. "I told you before... I don't run from the wild."
